This right here is one of my most favorite finds when trying to make caretaking easier! A Tubular Slide sheet (made of blue plastic material) why didn’t somebody tell me? I struggled to get Andy in and out of bed for so long and I was trying every WWE move I could come up with to get his 150 lbs in and out of bed. Ugh! Finally, this perfect piece of plastic did the trick! But, be careful when using it, because yeah, I slid him right off the other side of the bed once, and thankfully he made a safe landing! It’s really slick and the tubular design makes it super easy to move him. Recently, he’s taken a couple falls, and thankfully he was okay. But I had to figure out how to get him up. The slide sheet was the perfect answer to moving him across the floor to find a better location for getting him back up on his feet.
It’s cheap, only about $20 on Amazon.
28″ x 47″ it’s the perfect size for transfers. The material is super lightweight and the premium quality nylon fabric is super strong and has not torn or deteriorated. I love how the slickery material makes if perfect for easily moving his body weight.
Picture above includes: Electric Adjustable bed (awesome but needed to purchase a mattress pad for more comfort- I went with the Saatva Luxury Cooling Graphine Memory Foam Topper, $245, kind of spendy but totally worth it!), bedside table (cheap and perfect), bedrest pillow (helps prop him up while I move and/or dress him), remotes (notice the remote for the bed!) , cute hamburger squishy pillow (filled with beads making it super comfy and easily forms to his body).
Side to side, Up and down the bed, and my favorite is using it to turn him! Yup, I get pretty excited about this product! I always say “it seriously changed our lives!”
This blue invention folds up nicely and I store it in his nightstand. I use it ALL the time!
Initially, I bought one of the fancier designs with handles, but it was way heavier duty and there was no sliding. Seems like it was probably more for lifting and transferring.
I unexpectedly became a full-time caregiver-that’s usually how it happens to us! We’re not prepared! I wish someone would have shared some tips with me! We saw so many doctors, nurses, and therapists, and even had in-home care, and while we received super wonderful support, I needed so much more! Some of these little tricks are what really got us through and made our Andydayeverydays easier! Being a caregiver is hard work! I’m always looking at how I can make Andy more comfortable and how we can do things easier!!!
